Senator Aon Abbas, Special Assistant to the Prime Minister (SAPM) on E-Commerce, announced that the federal cabinet has approved the country’s first-ever e-commerce policy framework.
He stated that e-commerce would assist boost exports, enhance the digital economy, and become the country’s primary source of employment for youth.
He revealed that Prime Minister Imran Khan will launch an e-commerce online page in February 2022 as part of his aim to promote the digital economy. He also announced that the country will be home to the country’s first-ever e-commerce virtual university, which will launch in July 2022.
Senator Aon Abbas was addressing at the Chamber’s House on Wednesday during an e-commerce awareness session conducted by the Sarhad Chamber of Commerce and Industry (SCCI) in partnership with the Ministry of Commerce and Trade Development Authority of Pakistan (TDAP).
Imran Khan Mohmand, SCCI Senior Vice President, presided over the meeting. A large number of traders, exporters, importers, presidents of different bazaars and traders, including Chamber Vice President, Javed Akhtar, former President, Sherbaz Bilour, Ministry of Commerce Joint Secretary, Ayesha Humaira, Secretary Industries KP, Hashmat Ali, Executive Members, Ghulam Hussain, Ghulam Bilal Javed, Zahoor Khan, S Minhajuddin, Ejaz Khan Afridi, Shams Rahim, Naeem Qasmi, Saddar Gul, Rashid Iqbal Siddique, Faiz Rasool, M Ishtiaq were present during the seminar.
Senator Aon Abbas stated that domestic e-commerce remained at $4 billion, while cross-border digital trade totaled Rs. 60 billion in the previous year. Similarly, he stated that around $340 billion in e-commerce is carried out in the United States.
He stated that there are approximately 1.1 to 1.2 million freelancers working in the country, with a $1.5 billion share of overseas remittances.
The SCCI office bearers believed that the awareness seminar would serve to educate the business community, particularly startups, on how to promote their firms utilising the most up-to-date ways and resources.
