Samsung, a South Korean electronics company, has begun manufacturing mobile devices in Pakistan, reducing the country’s import expense.
On Tuesday, a team of senators led by Faisal Subzwari, Chairman of the Senate’s Standing Committee on Industries and Production, visited Samsung’s manufacturing facility in Karachi and officially inaugurated the production of mobile devices.
Samsung’s top national management also informed the group on the rapidly increasing mobile manufacturing sector in the country, as well as the problems it faces.
Senator Faisal Subzwari praised Samsung for putting up a sophisticated manufacturing unit and started production in less than four months after the visit, speaking to the media afterward.
He also praised the federal government for creating a favourable atmosphere that allowed one of the world’s largest mobile phone manufacturers to set up shop in Pakistan, creating jobs for the local populace.
Senator Faisal Sabzwari also recommended that the federal government take aggressive steps to shift the assembly industry’s focus from growth to localization.
