In the majority of local markets, the most recent generation Isuzu D-Max is totally dominating. The D-Max has amassed 4,237 new registrations over the first six months of this year in Malaysia, indicating a staggering 143 percent gain over the same time in 2021, after displacing the Toyota Hilux as the country’s most popular pickup truck.
More surprisingly, the D-Max sold 4,601 units in total throughout 2021 (8 months after it was introduced in Malaysia in April 2021), and it nearly surpassed that amount in just the first half of this year. In addition to moving it up to third place in the pick-up sector on the Malaysian market, it also positions the business for a record-breaking year.
The 3rd generation Isuzu D-Max has reportedly transformed how pick-up trucks appear, feel, and perform, according to Malaysia’s automotive websites. Isuzu was able to improve the new D-comfort, Max’s safety, and driving experience while adding more capabilities to it. Chief Executive Officer Shunsuke Okazoe claims:
“Since the introduction of the all-new Isuzu D-Max, we have seen a growing interest in pick-up truck usage, particularly from first-time buyers and upgraders who have been impressed by the way the new D-Max has blurred the lines between a tough and capable pick-up truck and the comfort and sophistication of a family saloon.”
The 1.9L Blue Power variations have been the most popular option among Malaysians, accounting for close to 80% of total sales, thanks to their incredibly adaptable engine performance, exceptional fuel efficiency, flawless durability, and fetching the lowest road tax in the market.
Additionally, the flagship X-Terrain variation, which accounts for 10% of the market, has made enormous strides. This is a remarkable accomplishment for Isuzu considering that it has always focused on reliable workhorses and has never had a strong presence in the leisure market.
