Reddit’s poor search quality has long been a source of criticism, causing many users to depend more on Google Search than the platform’s built-in search feature.
Reddit announced recently that same search system will continue, albeit with a broader Google collaboration.
As a result of this agreement, Google will have access to the network’s Data API, which will enhance the platform’s capacity to discover content and communities.
Reddit and Google Cloud jointly announced their intentions to leverage new AI-powered capabilities within their relationship to improve the Reddit platform.
In order to improve user participation in Reddit’s unique debates, Google will play a supporting role in the deployment of more content-centric Reddit information displays.
Furthermore, Google has stated that it would be using the Reddit Data API to acquire more profound understanding of content and enhance its engine’s capacity to deliver information in a more accurate and contextually relevant way.
Google promises users that their use of publicly accessible crawlable content for indexing, training, and displaying Google products won’t change even with the growth of their collaboration.
Additionally, Reddit just entered into a $60 million annual contract with an unidentified AI business to permit the usage of the platform’s content for AI training.
The social media business had last week disclosed intentions for its first public offering (IPO), at which point the news was released.
A $18.5 million net income was recorded by Reddit in filings with the Securities and Exchange Commission.
With $249.8 million in total revenue for the October–December quarter, this represents the company’s first profit in the last two years.
According to Reddit, the company intends to float its shares under the ticker symbol RDDT on the New York Stock Exchange.
