Qatar Airways, known for its forward-thinking approach to air travel, is continuing to transform the passenger experience.
Qatar airline’s CEO
Akbar Al Baker, the airline’s CEO, recently announced that the upcoming Boeing 777 planes will not have First Class cabins.
Al Baker stated that they made this decision because they believe the extravagant seating arrangement is unnecessary, especially given the exceptional amenities provided in the airline’s Business Class Qsuites.
This news comes as Qatar Airways marks the six-year anniversary of its ground-breaking Qsuites.
These Business Class cabins set a new standard for luxury on flights by being the world’s first individual suite designs with closing doors and the option of double-bed configurations
CEO Akbar Al Baker announced this strategic decision, which represents a departure from the airline’s luxury offerings.
Al Baker justified the decision by claiming that the current business-class experience already provides passengers with a plethora of amenities and perks, rendering the addition of luxurious first-class seats “unnecessary.”
“Why should you invest in a subclass of an aeroplane that already gives you all the amenities that first class gives you,” said Al Baker, speaking in an exclusive hour-long interview in Istanbul on Saturday. “I don’t see the necessity.”
While other airlines, including Deutsche Lufthansa AG, Qantas Airways, and Air France, have invested in features such as sleep pods, double beds, and lie-flat premium economy seats to elevate the luxury travel experience, Al Baker believes that business class is the way of the future, as evidenced by Qatar Airways’ successful “Q-suite” product.
The airline’s upcoming Boeing 777X aircraft, which will replace existing Airbus A380s with eight first-class seats, will not have a first-class cabin. When the 777Xs are retired, they will be the largest aircraft in Qatar Airways’ fleet.
The distinction between cabin classes has become increasingly blurred over time, particularly with the introduction of premium economy seats that bridge the gap between business and economy class.
First class has evolved into a novelty that is mostly used by corporate executives or those looking for an exclusive travel experience.
Qatar Airways is taking an unconventional approach to luxury travel by prioritizing business class and eliminating first-class seats. The airline intends to adapt to changing market preferences and demands.
