The Punjab government’s quick attempts to improve road safety, as well as the issue of 74,000 driving permits in a single day, are not the only developments.
Another notable change is a considerable increase in license fees.
Punjab Govt. Increased Driving License Fee by 1566%
The Lahore Traffic Police recently reported that the province government has approved a significant increase in driving license fees for both vehicles and motorcycles.
According to an official release on X, the caretaker Punjab administration has decided to raise the cost by 1566%, from Rs. 60 to Rs. 1000.
The contentious decision has sparked outrage on social media platforms.
Many individuals are dissatisfied, claiming that the timing of the rise is illogical, given that more motorists are adhering to traffic restrictions.
Netizens especially concerned that the substantial cost increase will discourage careful driving and unfairly burden law-abiding residents who are actively contributing to road safety.
To add fuel to the flames, traffic officers stated that individuals have until December 31 to purchase their licenses at the current rate.
However, beginning January 1, 2024, motorists will require to pay the increased price of Rs. 1000.
Furthermore, the city traffic police recently increased fines for learner’s permit holders, imposing a Rs. 2000 charge.
While the police have stated that they would not file charges against students, the large fine raises questions and adds to the public’s dissatisfaction.
In a single day, 74000 licenses are issued
According to the most recent update, the provincial traffic police announced that they had issued 74,000 driver’s licenses in less than twenty-four hours, indicating a noteworthy result of the continued enforcement efforts.
These developments highlight the significance of stringent enforcement measures to promote road safety as the crackdown continues.
In an effort to improve highway safety, National Highway and Motorways Police increased fines one more day ago.
