On Monday, Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz launched “Meri Awaz…Maryam Nawaz,” Pakistan’s first virtual women’s police station.
Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz expressed gratitude for the Virtual Women Police Station’s opening, highlighting its importance in preventing women from making unnecessary visits to physical police stations. The ceremony was held at the Punjab Safe Cities Authority.
Maryam Nawaz explained the Virtual Women Police Station’s operations, emphasising that it will assist women in all aspects of dealing with crime, from filing a FIR to conducting investigations and trials.
Variety of channels for women
She emphasised that women could contact the police through a variety of channels, including the 15 Call, the Women Safety App’s live chat and video calls, the Punjab Police App, and the Safe City web page.
Maryam Nawaz emphasised the station’s commitment to addressing women’s issues in a timely manner, with a top priority on resolving issues like harassment.
She emphasised the station’s confidentiality policy, reminding women that they may express their concerns anonymously without disclosing personal information such as name and address.
The introduction of a live video call option was also highlighted, allowing women to visibly express their problems and locations straight to authorities.
IT graduate women police communication officers have been assigned to the Virtual Women Police Station to assist complainants.
100 Emergency Panic Buttons
Furthermore, 100 contemporary emergency panic buttons have been put across Lahore, providing for fast access to Safe City in case of an emergency.
Maryam Nawaz expounded on the functionality of panic buttons put in public places including as universities, colleges, markets, junctions, and bazaars, emphasising their immediate connection to Safe City for rapid reaction.
Further, a complaint mechanism has been enabled, allowing for anonymous reporting of crimes, police wrongdoing, and concerns through the 1787 Helpline and the Safe City Authority Web Portal.
During her visit to the Virtual Women Police Station, Maryam Nawaz spoke with the Women Communication Police Officer, pushing him to complete the hostel and nursery for female police as soon as possible. She was also given a thorough briefing on other programs implemented by the Punjab Safe Cities Authority.
