PTI President Parvez Elahi Ordered to be Released
LAHORE: The Banking Criminal Court of Lahore on Saturday set free Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) President Chaudhry Parvez Elahi from jail. The decision was made when cash bonds of Rs0 were submitted by the firms to the BCDP. 5 million dollars was donated to the university by his son, Rasikh Elahi.
Parvez Elahi’s release came a few minutes after the cash bonds were produced before the court with FIA prosecutor Manam Bashir opposing the same. The prosecutor said that they should not be admitted because they were proffered by Rasikh Elahi – who is a co-accused as well. He asked for instance if one suspect could stand surety for another suspect and apprehensions regarding Rasikh Elahi’s capacity to produce his father in court in the event the later was arrested in separate case.
The court asked, though, whether there was any issue of law in preventing the acceptance of this guarantee. Parvez Elahi’s advocate, Advocate Asim Cheema, stood up strongly against the prosecutor’s objections and said that earlier, when Shehbaz Sharif was also a suspect, he had guaranteed Nawaz Sharif.
The court being satisfied with the submission of the required amount passed the order in favor of Parvez Elahi and set him free from the camp jail.
This case raises issues to do with legal processes and protection as far as the law is concerned whenever several persons involved in the events, have some form of legal issues. Parvez Elahi’s release shall also be widely observed as the justice delivery system unwinds its course.
