In order to tackle the ongoing problem of fraudulent accounts and malicious propaganda on social media platforms, the Ministry of Information Technology and Telecommunication (MoITT) has stepped up its efforts.
The Ministry recently discovered an additional 19 websites that have been actively engaging in disinformation campaigns.
It was discovered that these websites were spreading misleading information, picking on organizations and individuals, and planting the seeds of social unrest.
PTA To Block Misleading Websites, IT Ministry Ordered
The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has been ordered by the Ministry to stop such actions right away. The Ministry is committed to reducing the impact of these websites and the harm that their deceptive propaganda efforts cause.
These websites have been abusing their platforms to disseminate false information, sway public opinion, and damage the standing of organizations and people.
They have evolved into tools for sowing division and cultivating a hostile environment online.
In response, the Ministry has demanded that these websites be urgently blocked in order to stop the spread of unfavorable misinformation. Stopping their activities and defending the integrity of online dialogue are essential.
The discovery that a total of 97 websites are engaged in disinformation campaigns highlights the worrying scope of the problem.
Eighty websites have already received warnings ordering them to stop operating and change their content as a result of this.
The fact that these previously warned websites have not yet been taken down, however, is unsettling and emphasizes the necessity of taking prompt action.
