A financial dispute between the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) and the interim Punjab Government resulted in Karachi possibly hosting all of the remaining matches during the current season 8 of the Pakistan Super League (PSL).
Today, all six franchise owners will participate in a virtual meeting to make a final decision on the topic.
Cause of PSL Season 8 Matches Likely To Be Shifted To Karachi
The conflict started when the Punjab government asked PCB for PKR 450 million so that matches could be held in Rawalpindi and Lahore.
Contrarily, PCB had a deal of PKR 50 million with the previous administration, which was overthrown in the final week of January.
Due to the gridlock, PCB is now considering Karachi as a possible location for the remaining matches of the competition.
The sole payment the Sindh government requests from PCB is reimbursement for the cost of feeding the on-duty security officers.
The opposition of club owners to that proposal is one obstacle in PCB’s attempt to move the remaining PSL 8 matches to Karachi.
They apparently believe that the board and the government should resolve disputes on their own, and that the teams should not be drawn into any disputes that do not affect them.
Only Karachi and Multan have hosted the first 12 games of PSL season 8.
Peshawar Zalmi and Lahore Qalandars will play each other in the first game in Lahore on February 26. Karachi Kings and Peshawar Zalmi will play each other in the first game in Rawalpindi on March 1.
There are presently plans for Lahore to host both the playoffs and the final game on March 19.
