President Dr. Arif Alvi has asked the Higher Education Commission (HEC) to develop a comprehensive plan to implement the online distance learning (ODL) policy.
The decision was given during a briefing on the National University of Technology (NUTECH) in Islamabad at the President House on Tuesday, according to the state-run news agency APP.
The meeting was attended by NUTECH faculty members, HEC representatives, and senior government officials.
The President spoke at the event, emphasizing the importance of virtual education and urging colleges to raise the proportion of online education so that a greater number of students can benefit from the less expensive way of learning.
He stated, “Universities should focus on skill development and Information Technology to overcome the technological gap and put the country on the fast track of development.”
In addition, the President underlined the importance of promoting international skills in conjunction with foreign institutions and training institutes in order to train the country’s workforce to international standards.
Lt. Gen. (retd) Khalid Asghar, NUTECH’s rector, informed the meeting on NUTECH’s academic programs in various engineering subjects.
“NUTECH plans to offer programs in Artificial Intelligence (AI), Robotics, and other fields of engineering and IT,” he said.
He went on to say that the university is focused on delivering high-quality technical education and marketable skills to help the country’s youth find work.
