In the midst of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, Pakistan has relocated its embassy from Kyiv to Ternopil, instructing Pakistanis in Ukraine to travel to the city located 460 kilometers west of the capital.
Meanwhile, Air Marshal Arshad Malik, CEO of Pakistan International Airlines (PIA), said the national flag carrier was ready to operate special flights to bring stranded Pakistani students home.
“We are in contact with Foreign Ministry officials for the return of stranded students in Ukraine,” he said, adding that, “We will conduct flights for those caught in war-hit Ukraine as soon as we get a green signal.”
In a press conference on Friday, Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi announced that the Pakistan embassy had been relocated to Ternopil. All Pakistani students in Ukraine have been instructed by the Foreign Office to travel to Ternopil as soon as possible for evacuation.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MoFA) announcement comes as Russia escalates its military action against Ukraine.
Separately, the Pakistan embassy in Ukraine stated that all Pakistanis living in the country were safe. According to the embassy, Pakistani students would be safely evacuated to Poland, and it was in constant contact with Pakistan embassies in Poland, Romania, and Hungary.
“All these missions have been directed by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Islamabad, to facilitate all Pakistani students coming from Ukraine,” the embassy said.
