Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) has announced the addition of a new narrow-body Airbus A320 to its fleet, bringing the total to 33 aircraft, 13 of which are Airbus.
According to PIA spokesperson Abdullah Hafeez Khan, the airline received four A320s this year, the fourth of which recently arrived at Islamabad International Airport from Abu Dhabi.
He stated that the new plane’s improved cabin would allow the national flag carrier to provide better travel services to its passengers.
According to the spokesperson, PIA ordered four aircraft in total. The first plane arrived in April, the second in July, and the third plane was not mentioned by the spokesperson. It is worth noting, however, that it was received by PIA in October of this year.
The expansion of the national flag carrier’s fleet is a positive step. The move will allow it to launch more flights and generate more revenue.
Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) is looking to expand its fleet with more wide-body aircraft in order to increase the number of flights on its international routes.
In this regard, PIA spokesperson Abdullah Hafeez Khan stated that the national flag carrier will attempt to procure three wide-body jets during the first quarter of 2023, and a tender will be floated in the coming weeks.
Previously, various reports claimed that Pakistan’s national flag carrier was interested in Airbus A-330 and Boeing 787 aircraft. The reports, however, did not specify which variants PIA will acquire.
Boeing jets currently dominate PIA’s international flight operations fleet. It has 13 Boeing jets, all of which are between the ages of 14 and 18.
