Australia’s Pat Cummins has been named the recipient of the Sir Garfield Sobers Trophy for the ICC Men’s Cricketer of the Year 2023.

The inspired skipper enjoyed a spectacular run with the bat and ball, earning extraordinary team accomplishments such as victory in the ICC World Test Championship Final, retaining the Ashes, and winning a record sixth ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup in 2023.
Pat Cummins’ presence at the helm since late 2021 has propelled his club to new heights. It has also cemented his reputation as a player who elevates his performance in positions of more responsibility.
Pat Cummins defeated compatriot Travis Head as well as India’s Virat Kohli and Ravindra Jadeja to claim the title.
The year that was
Pat Cummins had a genuinely fantastic 2023, succeeding as a player and garnering numerous accolades while captain.
Following an early low of losing the Border-Gavaskar Trophy away to India, Cummins’ Australia rallied and reached significant milestones.
It began with a resounding victory over India in the World Cup final at The Oval, followed by a successful Ashes defence in England, and concluded with a magnificent comeback in the World Cup.
After losing the first two games, Australia won nine in a row to win the World Cup for a record sixth time.
Pat Cummins shown all-round ability in the Test arena. He continues to play an important role in Australia’s pace attack while also elevating his game with the bat when necessary.
This was evident in the opening Ashes Test in Birmingham. Despite going wicketless in the first innings, he scored a solid 38 to reduce England’s lead to just 10 runs.
Cummins then picked up four wickets to keep Australia’s target under 300. And when the tourists were struggling at 192/6 and then 229/8, Cummins delivered a gutsy effort to win Australia a thrilling Test.
In the ODIs, he delivered some critical knocks further down the order, as well as key breakthroughs in his economic spells.
Pat Cummins capped a great year with his second 10-wicket haul in Test cricket. This enabled Australia to win the Test series against Pakistan.
