Foreign direct investment (FDI) in Pakistan was $122.46 million in October 2023, representing a decrease of 29.05% MoM from $172.6 million in September 2023, according to the most recent data released by the State Bank of Pakistan (SBP).
Pakistan’s FDI Decreased
When comparing FDI year over year, it has dropped by 12.59% YoY from the $140.1 reported in October 2022.
Commutatively speaking, Foreign investments increased by $34.8 million, or 7.11% YoY, to $524.7 million in 4MFY24.
In the review month, there was an outflow of $51.73 million, up more than 35.69% YoY, and an inflow of $174.19 million, down 2.27% YoY, within the direct investments.
October 2022 Investments
In October 2022, there was a net selling of equity securities worth $2.62 million, whereas an inflow of $1.38 million was observed through equity securities with regard to the portfolio investment under FDI.
In October 2023, foreign private investment in the nation was $123.84 million, a 9.92% YoY decrease from $137.48 million in the same month the previous year.
During the review month, foreign public investment was $2.95 million.
Total Foreign Investments
As a result, the total foreign investment for the review month was $126.79 million, down 7.88% YoY from $137.64 million in October 2022.
Comparing cumulatively, FDI increased by 17.81% YoY to $538.81 million in 4MFY24, compared to $457.34 million reported in the same period the previous year.
