Pakistan’s Air Link Communication Limited stated on Tuesday that it had entered into a distribution deal with realme, a Chinese smartphone manufacturer.
Air Link has indicated that the distribution deal covers an entire spectrum of realme mobile devices and accessories, IoT goods, and TVs in Pakistan, according to details in a story published by Business Recorder.
“Realme has been one of the fastest-growing smartphone brands for five consecutive quarters, with global sales of 100 million handsets,” according to an Air Link statement.
This is a significant step for Air Link, which currently manufactures mobile phones under the Tecno and iTel brands, which are owned by Transsion Holding.
Furthermore, Select Technologies Private Ltd, a subsidiary of Xiaomi, received a manufacturing license from the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) last month to produce Xiaomi devices in Pakistan.
This development is also good news for Pakistan’s mobile manufacturing industry, which has been on the rise in recent months.
In fact, between January and November 2021, the output of mobile phones by local manufacturing companies more than doubled as compared to the import of commercial mobile phones into the country. Local output was 22.12 million over this time period, compared to 9.95 million imported mobile phones.
Air Link is one of the country’s leading mobile phone distributors, with a monthly capacity of 400,000 units. By FY23, production capacity is planned to rise to 550,000 units per month.
