The Pakistani men’s over-60s team defeated New Zealand by three wickets on Wednesday in Brisbane, Australia, to claim its first Over-60s Cricket World Cup championship.
In the semi-finals, the Men in Green overcame Australia, while earlier this week, New Zealand upset Canada. Having won six of six games, New Zealand was similarly unblemished going into the championship game.
In the championship match versus Pakistan, the Black Caps batted first and set a target of 173 runs with the loss of 9 wickets in 45 overs, which Pakistan’s seasoned players chased down to win by 7 wickets.
SM Kazmi and Mohammad Aslam, two Pakistani hitters, once again put on a fantastic show to propel their team to win. Both batters scored half a century to set the tone for Pakistan.
Aslam hit a crucial 70 runs to help Pakistan win the match, but Kazmi continued to lead his team in scoring with an unbroken 71 runs.
In the semifinal matchup against Australia, Mohammad Aslam also received player of the match honors for his all-around effort.
