Dr. Asim Hussain, a former federal minister for petroleum, asserted that he is 80% certain Pakistan will run out of natural gas by 2023.
According to the leader of the Pakistan People’s Party (PPP), if the strategy to stop the unnecessary use of gas resources isn’t put into action, there will be a gas shortage in the next ten years.
He continued by saying that given everything that has transpired to this point, he is 80% certain that Pakistan won’t have natural gas in the upcoming year.
Dr. Asim Hussain claims that Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif stated that the annual cost of electricity is close to $27 billion.
He asked how the federal government intended to pay for it in light of the fact that there were approximately 4 billion cubic feet (BCF) of natural gas available when he left the government.
He cautioned that because it is only 2.5 BCF right now, the remaining reserves would be insufficient if it dropped by another billion.
The former Minister also expressed concern over the fact that previous administrations did little to address this issue and that he does not anticipate any action being taken going forward.
Also, he claimed that the nation would experience a severe financial disaster if the cost increased from $27 billion to $32-37 billion.
The country is already seeing severe gas load shedding, which is a sign of an impending gas crisis for the public. As soon as possible, the federal government needs to develop a plan to address this issue.
