The world’s leading technology companies, who gathered in Barcelona for the Mobile World Congress 2022, praised Pakistan for its telecommunications reforms and recognized the country as a vast and lucrative market for digital connectivity.
During the Mobile World Congress 2022 on Tuesday, a series of meetings were held between various delegations representing international organizations and Pakistan’s Federal Minister for IT and Telecommunication, Syed Amin Ul Haque.
The Minister led delegates from Pakistan’s IT sector to the GSM Association’s four-day mega tech event.
During his meetings, the Minister briefed the delegations on Pakistan’s progress in the fields of information technology and telecommunications.
The state of Pakistan’s mobile connectivity, network upgrades, 5G adoption, and other developments were thoroughly discussed.
Etisalat, led by CEO Hatem Dowidar, and President and Group CEO PTCL, Hatem Bamatraf, paid a visit to the Federal Minister and discussed issues pertaining to the growth of telecommunications in Pakistan as well as the 5G strategy in Pakistan.
Huawei officials also met with the Minister to discuss the upgrading of Pakistan’s telecom network. Ajmal Awan, Member International Coordination; Haaris Mahmood Choudhry, CEO Universal Service Fund; and Osman Nasir, Managing Director Pakistan Software Export Board, also attended the meeting.
During the meetings, international delegations lauded the IT Ministry’s efforts to support Pakistan’s growing digital technology sector and stated that the country had a tremendous potential for establishing digital development projects.
Later, a World Bank delegation led by Practice Manager Nicole Klingen and including Vice President Infrastructure Riccardo Puliti and Global Lead Broadband Access Doyle Gallegos met with the Federal Minister.
The two sides talked about Pakistan’s broadband strategy and telecom infrastructure.
The Federal Minister also met with top executives from other major corporations, as well as Pakistan’s Ambassador and Consul General in Spain.
