On Friday, New Zealand defeated Bangladesh by an eight-wicket margin to claim their third consecutive victory in the ongoing World Cup 2023.
New Zealand’s 3rd Consecutive Win
Batting second at Chennai’s M.A. Chidambaram Stadium, the Black Caps cruised past the 246-run target thanks to skipper Kane Williamson’s unbeaten 78-run knock.
The Kiwis struggled at the start, not only because they had lost opener Rachin Ravindra, but also because they were struggling to score runs, as they were 37-1 after 10 overs.
However, Williamson and Devon Conway held together and accelerated the innings, but the latter was out for 45 runs while attempting a reverse sweep.
Despite losing his counterpart, Kane persisted and put together an incredible 108-run stand with Daryl Mitchell, who led New Zealand in scoring with 89 runs at an impressive 132.83 strike rate.
Williamson Got Injured
Williamson, who was making his long-awaited return to ODI cricket after knee surgery, was injured in the 39th over and returned to the pavilion after being hit in the thumb by a ball while crossing the wicket in the previous over.
Mitchell hit the winning shot for his team, securing a significant win for the Black Caps with 43 balls remaining.
Mushfiqur Rahim and Shakib-Al-Hasan Partnership
Batting first, Bangladesh suffered early blows, losing four batters for 56 runs in 12.1 overs and heading for an early collapse.
A 96-run partnership between the experienced Mushfiqur Rahim and Shakib-Al-Hasan, however, provided much-needed stability, with the former scoring 66 runs and the latter contributing 40.
After the two experienced batters left, another veteran, Mahmudullah, came in late and helped his team to a competitive 245-run total on the tricky Chennai wicket.
Lockie Ferguson With 3 Wickets
Lockie Ferguson took three wickets, Matt Henry and Trent Boult each took two, and Mitchell Santner and Glenn Phlipps each took one.
Bangladesh will play India in Mumbai on October 19, while New Zealand will play Afghanistan at the same venue on October 18.
