Due to the monthly fuel adjustment (MFA) for July 2022, the National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) has once again allowed an increase in electricity rates of Rs. 4.34 per unit.
A public meeting was convened by the electricity regulator to discuss the monthly fuel adjustment (MFA). According to NEPRA, the Central Power Purchasing Agency-Guarantee had requested a 4.69 rupee per unit rise in the electricity rate.
Preliminary analysis of the data revealed that NEPRA had calculated an increase of Rs. 4.34 per unit. The NEPRA authorities stated that “A detailed decision in this regard will be released after a review.”
According to NEPRA officials, breaking the merit order added a burden of more than $7.42 billion. Meanwhile, the cost of the LNG scarcity was above 6.93 billion.
On August 11, the National Electric Power Regulatory Authority raised the cost of electricity by Rs. 11.10 per unit for K-Electric customers. The authorization was granted in relation to fuel adjustment fees for June 2022.
The statement stated that the most recent increase would be included in the invoices for August and September 2022.
“(The FCA) shall be shown separately in the consumers’ bills on the basis of units billed to the consumers in the respective month to which the adjustment pertains,” said NEPRA.
