Murad Ali Shah, a candidate for the Pakistan People’s Party (PPP), was chosen as Sindh’s 25th Chief Minister (CM) on Monday.
Syed Awais Shah, the Speaker of the Sindh Assembly, presided over the meeting. Nadir Ali Magsi, the recently elected MPA, swore in as a member of the house.
In spite of the PTI and JI’s boycott, Muttahida Qaumi Movement-Pakistan nominee Ali Khurshidi received only 36 votes, giving PPP’s Murad Ali Shah a two-thirds majority with 112 votes.
On behalf of Murad Ali Shah, Ghulam Qadir Chandio, Saleh Shah, and Naeem Kharal had earlier presented the assembly with the nomination papers.
A day prior, the majority of assembly members chose Syed Awais Qadir Shah of the PPP and Anthony Naveed as the new speaker and deputy speaker.
It should be mentioned that with 112 members, the Pakistan People’s Party is the largest party in the Sindh Assembly.
Separately, despite the Sunni Ittehad Council’s (SIC) boycott of the proceedings, Maryam Nawaz, the nominee of the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz, was chosen as the province of Punjab’s first female chief minister.
With 220 votes, PML-N Senior Vice President Maryam Nawaz became victorious in the elections, becoming Punjab’s first female chief minister.
