Tesla no longer offers a free Mobile Connector Bundle with new vehicle purchases. Tesla Adri, a Twitter user, was the first to notice the change, which was later confirmed by CEO Elon Musk.
The $275 adapter lets you to connect your Tesla to a wall outlet and gain approximately two to three miles of range after an hour of charging.
Tesla CEO Elon Musk responded to someone who commented on the news after it was widely publicized by investor Sawyer Merritt, “Usage data were incredibly low, so it felt wasteful.” “On the (small) bright side, the mobile connectivity kit will come with more plug adapters.”
Later, Musk tweeted that Tesla would lower the price of the mobile adapter to $200 and make it easy to order it with a new car.
He was also keen to point out that charging your Tesla at one of the company’s Superchargers or with a Tesla Wall Connector installed in your home does not require an adapter. The Tesla website now lists the charging bundle as out of stock.
This isn’t the first time Tesla has deleted a charging cable, as Electrek points out. Previously, every new car came with both Level 1 and Level 2 connectors, but the latter adaptor was no longer included.
