The Peoples Bus Service will launch a mobile app on November 30 along with the activation of the intelligent transport system (ITS) in all of the service’s vehicles, according to Sindh Transport & Mass Transit Minister Sharjeel Memon.
On Thursday, Sharjeel Memon presided over a meeting at his workplace to discuss the bus service. Sohaib Shafiq, the project director for the National Radio & Telecommunication Corporation, and Capt. (R) Altaf Hussain Sario, MD of the Sindh Mass Transit Authority (SMTA), were also present.
The operation of the bus service, its new routes, the ITS, and the creation of a command and control room were all explained to the minister.
He said that the ITS in the buses will enable the activation of CCTV cameras, screens, live tracking, and monitoring tools, as well as the ability for citizens to track buses in real time and make payments online.
He added that the SMTA office is setting up a command and control room for the bus service and that they are working to give the bus service’s customers the most amenities possible.
In an interview with The News Agency, Sario described the three key characteristics of the mobile app. He said that the app would offer general details such as bus routes, schedules, and prices.
The second element, he said, will make it easier to track the buses. He explained that “the commuter would be aware of the location of the upcoming bus as well as when it was anticipated that it would arrive at the bus stop.”
He claims that the third feature of the mobile app will make it easier for users to pay using the app, including by scanning a QR code. People can purchase cards and activate them using the app, he claimed.
The online payment feature, he noted, will go live in December, but the other two elements will be operational by November.
Sharjeel Memon, who presided over a meeting last month, declared that there is an increase in demand for the bus service.
