Murtaza Solangi, Caretaker Information Minister, refuted reports of a possible internet shutdown during the 2024 general elections on Tuesday, calling them’speculations’.
The minister made these remarks while answering questions from journalists at a news conference in Islamabad with Secretary Information Shahera Shahid, Director General Radio Pakistan Saeed Ahmed Sheikh, and Executive Director General External Publicity Wing Ambreen Jan.

The minister also stated that international observers and journalists would visit Pakistan to monitor and cover the February 8 general election.
174 applications received
The information minister shared information about the applications being processed, stating that 49 visas have already been issued to foreign journalists, with another 32 in the process.
He stated that Pakistan’s High Commission in India has also received 24 applications, which are being processed.
The information minister reported that 174 applications from various foreign media outlets had been received.
He stated that several international media outlets, including CNN, BBC, DW, and those from Japan, have already established a presence in Pakistan and will cover the elections for National and Provincial Assembly seats.
