On Monday, Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella showed a new category of PCs with creative AI tools integrated directly into Windows, the company’s world-leading operating system.
Given the demand for devices enabled by ChatGPT-style technology, Silicon Valley predicts that more than 50 million “AI PCs” will be sold in the next year.
Event in Redmond
“We are introducing an entirely new class of Windows PCs engineered to unleash the power of distributed AI,” Nadella said at a launch event in Redmond, Washington.
“We call this new category ‘Copilot Plus’… The result is the fastest, most AI-ready Windows PCs ever built,” the Microsoft CEO added.
Of all the industry leaders, Microsoft has worked the hardest to include the potential of generative AI into its products, frequently leaving rival Google to play catch-up.
ChatGPT-style AI
ChatGPT-style AI, known as Copilot at Microsoft, is available throughout the company’s products, including Teams, Outlook, and the Windows operating system.
Microsoft has even attempted, but failed, to resurrect its internet search engine, Bing, with generative AI capabilities.
Wall Street Appreciation
W.S has applauded Microsoft’s shift to AI, with the business now overtaking Apple as the world’s largest by market capitalization.
Nadella’s declaration on AI follows those made by Google and ChatGPT maker Open AI last week.
The firms exhibited upgrades to their chatbots, including more human-like conversations and new capacities to grasp the environment through video.
Google also stated that it was adding AI answers to its world-leading search engine, despite concerns that it might reduce advertising revenue.
Microsoft is OpenAI’s primary investor, having invested over $13 billion in cloud computing credits to meet the ChatGPT-makers’ massive computational needs.
