In Pakistan, MG is preparing to start local manufacture of its automobiles. Teasers of its attractive portfolio of automobiles have piqued many people’s interest, but they’ve also raised important questions, such as how many of those cars will actually make it to Pakistan.
The media spoke person met with a senior MG executive who sought anonymity regarding the company’s future ambitions. According to him, MG’s assembly factory is nearly finished and will begin operations in the second half of 2022.
MG will launch the following new vehicles once local assembly commences, he said:
MG HS 1.5T and 2.0T AWD
Locally produced MG HS 1.5T and 2.0T All-Wheel-Drive (AWD) models will be the first to go on sale. The 1.5T is already available for purchase, and the 2.0T AWD has been on show at various dealerships on a regular basis.
The 2.0T AWD utilizes a more powerful turbocharged 2.0-liter 4-cylinder petrol engine that produces up to 224 horsepower (HP) and 360 Newton Meters (Nm) of torque and transmits it to all four wheels via a 6-speed DCT automatic transmission, as the name suggest.
It has a similar style and characteristics to the 1.5T model, indicating that it is a well-equipped and practical crossover SUV with more power. It’s safe to assume that the HS 1.5T’s price will be cut as a result of its local assembly, but the 2.0T AWD variant will target a more specialized market and command a higher premium.
MG ZST
The business also aims to release the ZST, a more powerful version of its subcompact SUV. It will be available as a locally assembled SUV, exactly like its larger siblings.
It comes with a turbocharged 1.3 liter 3-cylinder petrol engine that produces 161 horsepower and 230 Nm of torque, which is sent to the front wheels via a 6-speed automated transmission. The ZST, as a high-end model, will include a few additional features above the standard ZS.
The ZST is expected to be positioned as a competitor to the Peugeot 2008, which means a higher price tag.
MG GT
It’s safe to assume that the MG GT is one of Pakistan’s most anticipated new vehicles, based just on teasers. Its exhibitions in Pakistan’s main cities drew large crowds and piqued the interest of prospective purchasers.
The 1.5-liter naturally aspirated 4-cylinder petrol engine in the MG GT demonstration car develops 118 horsepower and 155 Nm of torque, which it transmits to the front wheels via a 6-speed automated transmission.
With a luxury interior and materials, a sporty and sleek design, and a long list of safety and convenience features, the GT is a complete package. Its appeal, however, will be determined by its price
