Despite the company’s ongoing controversies over breaching customers’ privacy and fuelling disinformation, Meta said in a blog post on Monday that it will soon be launching one of the world’s most powerful supercomputers to enhance its capacity to process and alter data quickly.
This new network of superfast machines, according to the US tech giant, would be able to process photos and video up to 20 times quicker than their current systems. In a blog post published by two of the company’s Artificial Intelligence (AI) researchers, the company stated,
“The supercomputer which is known as the AI Research SuperCluster (RSC) built from thousands of processors, will be used to seamlessly analyses text, images, and video together; develop new augmented reality tools and much more.”
The blog went on to say that one of the most important use cases for its AI development was removing hazardous information. The company has been working relentlessly to design and augment AI tools and frameworks that will, among other things, allow individuals conversing in multiple languages to seamlessly comprehend each other in real-time.
The AI Research SuperCluster (RSC), according to the business, is already among the top five fastest supercomputers and is on its way to become one of the world’s fastest AI machines.
Platform behemoths like Facebook and Google have been chastised repeatedly for aiding in the spread of prejudice and hate speech, as well as for the unauthorized use of user data. Both companies are currently on trial for illegally transferring their users’ data to the United States.
Recently, we’ve seen Mark Zuckerberg, Chairman and CEO of Meta, push harder to create the Metaverse concept, which revolves around establishing an immersive 3D web-based platform that involves the use of VR/AR headsets and other sensor equipment, to knock out huge tech rivals like Google and Microsoft.
