To improve road safety, the Lahore High Court (LHC) has imposed a Rs. 5,000 fine on motorcyclists who do not wear helmets. The court has decided to intervene due to the authorities’ poor performance.
Orders Released From LHC
After hearing petitions about the city’s smog, Justice Shahid Karim issued this ruling. During the hearing, he directed the traffic officers to enforce strict helmet regulations.
The court stated that it would issue an official order enforcing these rules. It also chastised traffic wardens for failing to carry out their duties properly.
A cycling event was recently held on Main Boulevard in Gulberg by the traffic police and the Lahore Development Authority (LDA). The court chastised city traffic wardens for obstructing traffic.
The court proposed a ten-day public awareness campaign to encourage helmet use, as well as a system that automatically fines non-compliant riders.
The LHC was also displeased with the drainage of the CBD underpass. The court demanded an explanation from the LDA Chief Engineer regarding the underpass’s poor drainage.
