In Pakistan, laptops and personal computers are expected to become more expensive, as the government plans to impose a 17 percent sales tax on all types of computers as part of the supplementary finance bill 2021, which will be presented to the National Assembly.
According to current sources, sales tax is not charged on computer imports or local supplies. On laptop computers, personal computers, and notebooks, a 17 percent sales tax has been proposed which will make them more expensive.
The relevant organizations under the Sales Tax Act 1990‘s Exemption Schedule will be eliminated as part of the supplementary finance bill 2021.
With the repeal of the sales tax exemption, all computers imported into the country will be subject to a regular rate of 17 percent sales tax.
