The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) government has instructed newly hired teachers to purchase tablets from their District Education Officers (DEOs) by February 28.
A tweet by the KP Elementary and Secondary Education Department, “Under the KP Tablet Allowance Policy, the following government school teachers are required to contact their DEOs and purchase tablets by 28 February 2022”.
It has instructed PST, SST, PET, and CT teachers hired between 2019 and 2021 to purchase the necessary tablets in order to complete the nine-month mandatory Teachers’ Induction Program training.
The Education Department has advised teachers to contact their DEOs for the tablet specifications they require, and has stated that half of the cost will be reimbursed upon receipt.
The tweet further read, “Once you buy the tablet, you will be refunded 50 percent of the amount or up to a maximum of Rs. 15,000 by sharing your receipt at the DEO office”.
After completing the Teachers’ Induction Program training, the teachers will be able to keep the tablets.
Many people are surprised by the move because the provincial government announced last week that tablets would be distributed for free to students and teachers.
On 11 February, KP Education Secretary Ashfaq Ahmed told media that the entire project would cost Rs. 1 billion. Once the provincial government has allocated the necessary funds, it will be formally launched.
