In the face of mounting economic hardships, Defense Minister Khawaja Asif called on the country, particularly the merchants’ community, to embrace austerity measures to eliminate fuel and power wastage.
Minister of State for Petroleum Senator Musadik Masood Malik, Minister for Kashmir Affairs and Gilgit Baltistan Qamar Zaman Kaira, and Minister for Communications and Postal Services Maulana Asad Mehmood surrounded him during a joint news conference.
Asif asked the public to join him in supporting the government’s efforts to restore normality via difficult economic decisions. He urged merchants to embrace the federal cabinet’s decision to change market closing times in order to cut electricity and gasoline use, which would benefit the general public.
Fuel costs have risen globally as a result of the Ukraine conflict, according to the minister, and nations with fewer resources are directly impacted by global inflation.
Qamar Zaman Kaira, the Prime Minister’s Adviser on Kashmir Affairs and Gilgit-Baltistan, stated the country may have gone into debt if the government had not increased fuel prices.
He claimed that the government is giving targeted subsidies to protect the poor from the effects of rising gasoline costs.
Maulana Asad Mehmood, the Minister of Communication, said the administration is working on an emergency basis to stabilize the country’s economy and is devoted to raising the common man’s living standard.
