The Sindh government plans to launch an electric taxi service in Karachi soon in order to provide citizens with modern, affordable, and environmentally friendly transportation options.
Sharjeel Inam Memon, Sindh’s Information and Transport Minister, revealed this after inspecting the construction of the Red Line Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) service corridor.
He also stated that existing ride-hailing services have significantly raised their fares. As a result, the introduction of a new, less expensive taxi service has become even more critical.
According to Memon, the Sindh government is working hard to introduce a new environmentally friendly and comfortable taxi service in Karachi. This project will be made available to the public in the near future.
The transport minister told the media that the Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) leadership had asked the Sindh government to expedite the completion of transportation-related projects in the city in order to best serve Karachi residents.
Earlier this month, the Karachi Transportation Department began testing its all-new battery-powered passenger buses.
Trial runs between the Sindh Archives Complex and Sea View were conducted by the department. Memon and other relevant officials participated in the testing and inspection of the newly imported electric buses.
He stated that Sindh’s public transportation sector is confronted with significant challenges. He added that the government is working to address these issues by providing residents with modern and comfortable commuting options.
