Late in 2019, Toyota Raize and Daihatsu Rocky, two sibling models, were introduced in Japan. The Subaru Rex is the newest addition to the family of subcompact crossovers. Not to add the Perodua Ativa, which is virtually the same car and is offered in Malaysia.
Although the Toyota Raize and Daihatsu Rocky have slightly distinct aesthetics, the Subaru Rex really resembles a Daihatsu Rocky that has been rebadged. The only differences are the exterior and interior Subaru logos, as well as a slightly modified grille with new indents.
There are two G and Z variations of the Subaru Rex. Both models use a front-wheel drive system and a WA-VE 1.2L three-cylinder gasoline engine with naturally aspirated compression that produces 86 horsepower and 113 pound-feet of torque. The WLTC test cycle estimates the fuel consumption at 20.7 km/l.
The Subaru Rex comes with LED headlights, LED fog lamps, fabric upholstery with red contrast piping, and a 7-inch digital instrument cluster. Variant-specific features include 16-inch wheels, a manual handbrake, urethane steering, and a G version. The Z model offers a 9-inch touchscreen head unit with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, 17-inch alloys, an electronic parking brake, a leather-wrapped steering wheel, and leather-wrapped seats.
