The National Telecommunication Corporation (NTC) revenue’s budget of Rs. 5.236 billion and operational expense budget of Rs. 5.063 billion for the fiscal year 2022–23 have been submitted to the Economic Coordination Committee (ECC) of the Government for approval.
Regarding the NTC amended budget estimates for 2021–2022 and 2022–2023, the ministry has moved a summary to the ECC. The next meeting of the ECC is likely to include discussion of the NTC agenda, according to government sources who spoke to local English Newspaper agency.
The Telecom Reorganization Act of 1996 created the NTC, which has the responsibility of providing ICT services to the federal government, the armed forces, defence initiatives, provincial governments, and all government institutions (autonomous/semi-autonomous entities).
IT Ministry Drafted First Infrastructure Sharing Framework
NTC must draft its budget and submit it for the federal government’s approval before the first of June each year in accordance with Rule 41(7) and Rule (8) of the Pakistan Telecommunications (Re-organization) Act, 1996.
As a result, the NTC presented its proposed budget to the Ministry of IT and Telecom for approval after receiving permission from the NTC Audit Committee and Management Board and securing the support of the Finance Division.
According to sources, the Finance Division made some observations on the NTC budget on February 2, 2023, and asked that their opinions/comments be included in the summary for the ECC of the Cabinet.
As a result, NTC responded to the Finance Division’s findings in a letter dated February 15, 2023.
The Ministry of Information Technology and Telecommunication proposed the following in accordance with the recommendations of the NTC Audit Committee, the NTC Management Board, and the opinions of the Finance Division:
- (NTC’s revenue budget Rs5.236 billion and Annual Development Program (ADP) Rs. 1.580 billion and operating cost Rs. 5.063 billion for the financial year 2022-23, along-with its enclosures;
- NTC’s revised estimates of revenue budget Rs. 4.669 billion, ADP Rs. 1.260 billion and operating cost Rs. 4.585 billion for the financial year 2021-22.
