The Ministry of Information Technology and Telecommunications (MoITT) has chosen to build infrastructure for freelancers in conjunction with the private sector.
According to sources, 5,000 freelancing centers will be created in the country’s small and large towns with the help of the private sector.
Model Develops By IT Ministry
According to Ministry of IT and Telecom officials, such a model is being designed that will benefit both the government and the commercial sector.
According to the model, such structures in cities that are currently unused will be repurposed.
The government will assist the owners of these structures in obtaining bank loans and will subsidize the interest rate.
Officials from the Ministry of Information Technology revealed that they are in the process of establishing the percentage of interest rate subsidies to be granted.
Subsidies To Grant By Ignite and PSDP
This grant will be sponsored in part by Ignite and in part by the Public Sector Development Program (PSDP).
Furthermore, plans are being developed to construct freelancing centers in tier one, tier two, and tier three cities.
According to officials, the original plan was to establish community centers via freelancing centers. Cities will have freelancing hubs created in abandoned structures.
Benefits for Freelancers
Freelancers will be provided with office space and infrastructure. Facilitating freelancers will boost the country’s IT exports.
This plan, according to officials, will make it easier for freelancers to work.
The seat charge for freelancers working in any commercial place is Rs. 10,000-15,000, which they cannot afford.
Whereas in these freelancing centers, freelancers will pay Rs. 3,000-4,000 for a seat.
When the freelancers obtain the facilities, they will relocate accountants and other personnel to these centers, which will then become e-employment centers.
Officials said that only buildings that give facilities to freelancers in accordance with a predetermined standard will be designated as freelancing hubs.
According to them, 3.6 million people have registered for Ignite’s DG Skills program. Umar Saif, the interim IT Minister, has directed the MoITT to focus on providing infrastructure to these freelancers.
