Syed Amin ul Haque, Federal Minister for Information Technology and Telecommunications stated that the telecom sector needed to upgrade its infrastructure in order to improve the quality of its services in the country.
Speaking to a delegation from Telenor, a Norwegian state-owned multinational telecommunications company led by executive vice president Jorgen C. Arentz Rostrup, the minister stated that telecom companies should upgrade their infrastructure throughout the country, particularly in urban areas.
Mr. Haque stated that the IT ministry provides a 90 to 95 percent subsidy for the provision of mobile and broadband services to underserved and unserved areas of the country.
He stated that improving digitalization necessitated addressing public complaints and expanding networking.
He stated that his ministry was actively working to remove all barriers to the development of the country’s telecom sector so that the Digital Pakistan Vision could become a reality.
He stated that his ministry was working hard to reduce telecom taxes in addition to resolving issues in the banking sector.
“Digital world needs innovation in all fields including e-commerce … without it, no one can compete with rapidly growing demands of the market,” Mr Haque said.
“As a record number of mobile phones and broadband subscribers grow in the country, so does the quality of services. Similarly, the digital world requires innovation in all areas, including e-commerce and day-to-day routines,” the minister said.
Mr. Rostrup stated on the occasion that Telenor is committed to being a key partner in Pakistan’s digital journey.
“Telenor is committed to supporting Pakistan in its next stage of digital growth. Together, we must incorporate new technologies to bridge the digital and connectivity divide in the country,” he said.
