At this point, it would be simpler to respond “no,” but that is not the case. The Pakistan cricket team and their heartbroken supporters still have some hope that Pakistan will get into semi-finals of T20I World Cup 2022.
However, the burden of advancing Pakistan to the semi-finals nearly entirely falls on India. Before South Africa’s thrashing of India on Sunday, it had come down to ifs and buts, and now Pakistan needs a miracle to advance to the next round.
Pakistani supporters had high hopes for a potent Indian team to defeat South Africa, but the Proteas’ bowling performance was superior by a wide margin.
India didn’t (or couldn’t) give their finest performance, as the majority of Pakistani fans anticipated.
Due to weak fielding, South Africa easily won and virtually surely secured a spot in the semi-finals. They still have to win one of their final two games to guarantee their spot in the semi-finals; their next opponents are Pakistan and the Netherlands.
Following yesterday’s defeat from South Africa, Indian supporters are ecstatic, proclaiming that “Kohli and co. have dropped Pakistan at the Karachi airport.”
Fans of India are making fun of Pakistan for relying on their neighbors to get them through.
India’s chances have also suffered because their upcoming games against Zimbabwe and Bangladesh are now must-win contests. An upset would likely result in India’s elimination.
It appears that Pakistan needs a miracle similar to the World Cup of 1992, but miracles don’t occur frequently.
