Islamabad Declaration on Artificial Intelligence
One of the most significant outcomes of the meeting is the introduction of the Islamabad Declaration. This is a national framework that addresses the development, application, and deployment of AI in the nation. It is also focused on promoting the sovereignty of the state on data, as well as the ethical, responsible, and efficient usage of AI.
Government Commitments and Investment
Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif plans to invest one billion dollars in artificial intelligence by the year 2030. This investment will be used for the development of Pakistani sovereign computer infrastructure and innovation in artificial intelligence. They also want to reduce the threat of foreign artificial intelligence in the country.
Education and Workforce Development
The federal government has also made significant announcements regarding reforms in education and skill development. Education in AI will be made part of the federal school curriculum, and its access will be made available to underserved areas, including AJK, Gilgit Baltistan, Balochistan, etc. One thousand PhD scholarships in AI will be offered, and one million non-IT professionals will be trained in AI.
Implementation Already Underway
Minister for IT and Telecommunication Shaza Fatima Khawaja has confirmed that implementation is already underway for these initiatives. The new ideas are deemed very important, as they involve full adaptability with federal divisions’ office electronic systems, as well as creating high-performance computing systems.
