Silva and Dunith Partnership
After losing wickets at regular intervals, the home team was at 99-6 in 25.1 overs when Dhananjaya de Silva and Dunith Wellalage put on a crucial 63-run stand.
The match was in the hands of the home team when de Silva decided to play a risky shot and lost his wicket to Ravindra Jadeja for 41 runs, therefore eliminating his team’s chances of winning.
After de Silva fell, Sri Lanka quickly dropped wickets and were all out for 172 runs. Wellalage batted until the end, scoring 42 off 46 balls.
Batting first, India’s openers, Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill, set a promising tone with an 80-run stand before being undone by Sri Lanka’s young gun Wellalage.
After Virat Kohli Dismissal
After Virat Kohli was dismissed for three, Ishan Kishan and KL Rahul took leadership in an attempt to resurrect India’s innings.
But Sri Lanka’s spinners kept applying pressure, taking wickets at regular intervals. Kishan scored 33 runs off 61 balls, while Rahul scored 39 off 44 balls.
India were shortly all out of 213 runs, with Axar Patel (26) falling to Mahesh Theekshana. With a stunning 5/40, Wellalage achieved his first five-wicket haul in international cricket.
