Due to an increase in COVID-19 instances in Pakistan, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) is expected to curtail fan involvement in the seventh edition of the Pakistan Super League (PSL).
On Wednesday, January 19, a meeting between PSL management and officials from the National Command and Operation Center (NCOC) would be held in this respect.
The committee will examine the current COVID scenario in Karachi and Lahore, the two host cities for the seventh season of the Pakistan Super League, and make a final decision on stadium audience capacity.
Previously, the NCOC had authorized for a 100 percent crowd capacity for PSL 7. However, due to the sixth epidemic of the virus induced by the Omicron variant, the NCOC may cut attendance to 30%.
The PSL 2022 will begin on January 27 in Karachi. However, COVID-19 is resurgent in Karachi, with the positive rate jumping to 40% on Sunday, with 2,677 new cases reported in the previous 24 hours.
The Sindh government has asked PCB to reconsider its plan to conduct PSL 7 matches in front of a full house, according to sources, as this could result in an increase in cases. On Wednesday, however, a final decision will be made in this regard.
