The price of gold has levelled off at Rs204,200 per tola. There is a “undercost” of Rs13,000 per tola for gold in Pakistan. Also, some analysts have noted a cautiousness in the gold market.
With the international market and the appreciation of the rupee versus the US dollar, the price of gold in Pakistan fell again on Tuesday. According to the latest figures from the All-Pakistan Sarafa Gems and Jewellers Association (APSGJA), the price of 24 carats metal has fallen to Rs204,200 per tola and Rs175,068 per 10 kilos.
Pakistan imports nearly all of the gold it consumes, therefore the currency depreciated alongside the dollar. Traders in Pakistan also closely track the price of it on foreign markets to determine domestic rates.
In order to determine the value of the metal in rupees, jewellers first translate it to the value of the US dollar and the UAE dirham.
As an additional indicator that the Pakistani gold market is currently lower than the worldwide market, the association also mentioned that its price is Rs13,000 per tola “undercost” in Pakistan, as compared to the Dubai market.
Gold prices is continuously fluctuating in the international market
Gold prices fell for a second day on the international market after soaring beyond $2,000 an ounce in the previous session, as investors shifted their focus from the financial crisis to the US Federal Reserve’s interest rate decision. Following a fall of $14, the price per ounce levelled off at $1,968.
On Monday, the metal reached a high not seen since March 2022—$2,009.59 an ounce—before beginning a steady decline. Nonetheless, the market is currently showing signs of caution in light of the next Fed rate announcement.
After the failure of Silicon Valley Bank in the United States earlier this month, investors flocked to the safety of gold, sending its price up by more than $100 on the worldwide market.
While this was happening, the price of silver in India fell to Rs2,200 a tola and Rs1,886.14 per 10 grammes, marking a decrease of Rs50 and Rs42.86, respectively.
