Barrister Murtaza Wahab, Adviser to the Chief Minister of Sindh on Law and Administrator of Karachi, has clarified that allegations leveled against former Pakistan captain Sarfaraz Ahmed of illegally seizing a portion of a College girl’s land for his cricket academy are without merit.
Murtaza said that the land was given to Sarfaraz Ahmed by the Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC) after he guided the Pakistan national team to victory in the 2017 ICC Champions Trophy, which included a decisive victory over arch-rivals India in the final.
It was previously reported that Sindh’s College Education Department had sent a letter to higher authorities instructing them to “get the occupied ground of the college vacated by influential persons.”
Murtaza Wahab said, “Allegations raised by college principal on the former captain and cricketer Sarfaraz Ahmed are false.”
Furthermore he also added, “Sarfaraz has the charge of that land since 2017. The college had two entry gates; one was from the cricket academy. Recently, the college management decided to use the gate of the cricket academy for parking which was, as a result, destroying the ground. The ground management then closed cricket academy door for parking purposes that sparked outrage.”
Murtaza also recommended the media and social media to conduct a thorough investigation into the story before reporting it, as it may cause distress to the persons concerned. He stated that he is aware of the claims against Sarfaraz and that the situation will be settled soon.
