In April 2022, the Securities and Exchange Commission of Pakistan (SECP) registered 2,345 new firms, bringing the total number of companies registered to 168,030.
This is a seven percent increase over the same period previous year.
The newly established firms’ total capitalization (paid-up capital) was Rs. 3.1 billion.
63 new businesses have received foreign investment. Foreign investors from Afghanistan, Austria, Azerbaijan, Canada, China, Denmark, Dominican Republic, Germany, Ireland, Jordan, Korea South, Philippines, Saudi Arabia, South Africa, Turkey, the UAE, the United Kingdom, Ukraine, and the United States have invested in these enterprises.
Around 65 percent were formed as private limited corporations, while 33 percent were formed as sole proprietorships. Public unlisted corporations, not-for-profit groups, foreign firms, and limited liability partnerships accounted for 2% of the total (LLP). Nearly 99.8% of businesses were registered online, 0.02 percent was registered offline, and 175 international users were registered.
With 434 companies, the real estate development and construction sector took the lead, followed by information technology (355), trading (285), services (195), food and beverages (93), e-commerce (88), education (81), tourism (75), marketing and advertisement (64), corporate agricultural farming (60), engineering (59), healthcare (50), and pharmaceutical (48), Textiles had 45 companies, chemical had 44, logging had 40, mining and quarrying had 39, communication and transportation had 31, auto and allied had 26, cables and electric goods had 22, fuel and energy had 17, broadcasting and telecasting had 16, cosmetics and toiletries had 14, arts and culture had 14, and other sectors had 76.
