To prevent forest fires, the civil administration of the district Islamabad has imposed a restriction on all recreational activities in the Margalla Hills National Park (MHNP).
The prohibition is effective immediately and will last for two months, according to the official statement. Outdoor cooking, campfires, and BBQs will be restricted in the Margalla Hills National Park (MHNP) during this time.
Additionally, parking vehicles and motorcycles on the Pir Sohawa Road has been prohibited in order to discourage people from stopping along the Margalla Hills national park’s roadsides to engage in recreational activities.
The news comes after the Deputy Commissioner (DC) Islamabad was notified by the Ministry of Climate Change and the Islamabad Wildlife Management Board (IWMB) about the factors triggering forest fires in the MHNP.
In a separate incident, DC Islamabad has ordered a four-day closure of all hiking routes in the MHNP due to the unusual events taking place in the federal capital over the next few days.
Due to the 48th Session of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) Council of Foreign Ministers (CFM), which coincides with the National Day Parade, the trails will stay closed from March 21 to 24.
