You received a Word document, but you don’t have Word? Giving up on Microsoft Word in favor of Google Docs? No problem; Google Docs makes it simple to import Word documents.
Google Docs
While it does not support some of the more advanced features and formatting of some Word documents, it does work quite well.
Importing a Word Document into Google Docs
To view a Word document on Google Docs, first save it to your Google Drive. Open Google Drive and select “New.”
Click “File Upload” to browse for your Word Doc or other file.
- Navigate to the file(s) you want to open, then click “Open.”
- You can also drag and drop a file from your computer into the web browser for a quick upload.
- Once your file has been uploaded, right-click it, select “Open With” from the context menu, and then “Google Docs.”
- Google Docs is then created from your Word document.
After you’ve finished editing your file, you can share it with others or download and export it back into Microsoft Word format by going to File > Download As and selecting the “Microsoft Word” option.
