WHO IS ELIGIBLE TO APPLY FOR ONLINE REGISTRATION?
Only an individual can use the e-filing system. As a result, associations of individuals and corporations must go through a slightly longer process. E-filing is only available for income tax returns and not for sales tax returns.
WHAT DO YOU NEED TO BECOME A FILER?
If you register online, you will need the following items, according to the information provided by the FBR:
- A cell phone with a SIM card registered to your own CNIC Personal email address.
- Scanned pdf files of: Certificate of maintenance of a personal bank account in your name.
- If you own a business, you must provide proof of tenancy/ownership of the business premises.
- If you own a business, you must have a utility bill that is no more than three months old.
WHAT IT TAKES TO BECOME A FILER
Step 1: Obtain an NTN Number:
To become a filer and be included on the active taxpayers list (ATL), a person must first determine whether or not they already have an NTN.
If you do not have an NTN, go to this website and register under Registration for Unregistered Persons. To log into the IRIS system, fill out the simple form and follow the steps.
“Registration Form” can be found in the draft folder. Fill out the form and submit it. You will receive your NTN in about an hour. To become a filer, you must first submit your 2017 tax return after receiving the NTN.
Step 2: Unregistered Person Registration:
If you are a first-time user, you must go to ‘https://iris.fbr.gov.pk/public/txplogin.xhtml‘.
Provide the requested information. You will be sent a confirmation input to validate your account (typically via email and/or SMS).
You will be sent a password/PIN to use to access your account. For security reasons, this process may take a few days.
You will be directed to the Iris login page, where you must first register if you haven’t already. You can register by clicking the “Unregistered Person Registration” button.
Step 3: Filling Out Forms:
When you click on the link, a dialogue box will appear in which you must enter your basic information as shown.
When you click submit after entering your information, you will be prompted to confirm your email address and phone number, with separate codes sent to each.
You will receive a text with your registration number (same as your ID card number, without the dash or space), password, and pin code once you have submitted it again and your email and mobile have been verified.
You’ll be able to access your Iris account by entering your registration/CNIC number and password. You’ll need the pin code to submit your income tax returns or wealth statement, so keep it handy.
Step 4: E-Enrollment for Registered Individual:
People with an NTN but no Iris username or password can get one by clicking “E-Enrollment for Registered Person,” as shown in the image.
When you click submit after entering your information, you will be prompted to confirm your email address and phone number, with separate codes sent to each.
You will receive a text with your registration number (same as your ID card number, without the dash or space), password, and pin code once you have submitted it again and your email and mobile have been verified.
You will be able to access your Iris account by entering your registration/CNIC number and password.
Step 5: Create a Wealth Statement:
To become a filer, you must provide a wealth statement as well as your income tax returns.
You can now file your wealth statement once you’ve successfully registered and logged in to Iris by entering your Registration No. and password on the main page. Salary earners must complete wealth statements and income tax returns.
