A brand new trailer for Sony and Guerrilla Games’ Horizon Forbidden West has arrived, and it has some interesting revelations. The new trailer, which looks quite awesome by the way, shows some new enemies that players will face in the game. The game had premiered at The Game Awards 2021 earlier this year, which showed the different environments that the central character, Aloy, will experience during the game. The trailer shows a lot of animals, and what looks like a giant snake right out of the Transformers movies, while the narrator explains that some of these animals are friendly and others will attack on sight.
It seems Aloy will be able to ride at least one of them, if not more, and the animals will be a central aspect of the game as well. In a blog post, narrative director Ben McCaw had explained that Horizon Forbidden West will have a bunch of new machines, which haven’t been revealed yet.
The animals here are, of course, based on real world animals, though the trailer makes them look quite cool. You have an armadillo that curls into a ball and rolls around, while there’s also “The Slitherfang”, which is a giant snake that can spit acid.
What’s unclear right now is how the gameplay experience will be in the end. Horizon Forbidden West’s trailers have been great so far, but Sony has also shown only the PlayStation 5 variant of the game. While it should be coming to the PlayStation 4 as well, we don’t yet know what it will look like without the PlayStation 5’s hardware.
It’s also worth noting that Sony had earlier said that PS4 owners will not get a free-upgrade to Horizon Forbidden West earlier, but changed that decision after facing backlash from gamers.
In a recent blog post, Jim Ryan, President and CEO of Sony Interactive Entertainment, said:
“Last year we made a commitment to deliver free upgrades for our cross-gen launch titles, which included Horizon Forbidden West. While the pandemic’s profound impact pushed Forbidden West out of the launch window we initially envisioned, we will stand by our offer: Players who purchase Horizon Forbidden West on PlayStation 4 will be able to upgrade to the PlayStation 5 version for free.
I also want to confirm today that moving forward, PlayStation first-party exclusive cross-gen titles (newly releasing on PS4 & PS5)–both digital and physical*–will offer a $10 USD digital upgrade option from PS4 to PS5. This will apply to the next God of War and Gran Turismo 7, and any other exclusive cross-gen PS4 & PS5 title published by Sony Interactive Entertainment.”
