The number of hepatitis patients in Punjab has risen to almost 3.9 million, indicating a serious health issue that must be addressed immediately.
According to official data, just 23 of the 217 clinics in Punjab have Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR) test facilities, which are critical diagnostic tools for accurate disease detection. Surprisingly, less than 11% of clinics have this technology.
Over 981,000 PCR testing have reportedly been performed to date.
Hepatitis Cases Reported in Punjab
The docs also highlight a troubling fact: the frequent use of syringes is responsible for 62% of the disease’s spread.
Individuals suffering from Hepatitis C are among the most affected, with Punjab reporting over 76,000 cases. This category has been known for becoming chronic and, if left untreated, causing serious liver damage.
Recent screening results revealed an alarming 138,000 instances of category B, exacerbating the problem. This figure contrasts sharply with the previously documented 400,000 cases of B and C category.
