The Hajj 2024 pilgrimage officially began on Friday. As pilgrims in Saudi walked and took buses to Mina. Where they will camp in one of the world’s largest tent cities.
Hajj 2024 Pilgrimage
The Mina Valley, located approximately 5 KMs east of Makkah’s Grand Mosque. Is a 250-hectare open space covered by over 100,000 air-conditioned camps. Can hold more than 2.6 million people.
8th day of Dhul Al Hijjah
The eighth day of Dhul Al Hijjah, Friday. When pilgrims first arrive in Mina, is known as Yawm Al Tarwiyah, or the day of irrigation.
Mount Arafat Tradition
Due to a tradition in which people bring water to the place in preparation for the Day of Arafat, when pilgrims climb Mount Arafat.
During the day, pilgrims will walk seven times around the Kaaba for the welcoming tawaf (also known as the circumambulation) and kiss the black stone.
In the afternoon, they will go to the Safa and Marwah hills near the Kaaba and run or walk seven times between them to symbolise Prophet Ismael’s mother Hajjar’s search for water for her son.
Pilgrims will then spend the entire day of Friday, until dawn, in Mina, preparing for the Day of Arafat, the most significant event of the Hajj pilgrimage.
Saudi Officials Reports
Saudi officials reported that more than 1.5 million foreign pilgrims had arrived in the country by Tuesday, the vast majority by plane, with more expected.
Hajj is a sacred pilgrimage and one of Islam’s five pillars. Every year, millions of Muslims from around the world travel to Makkah, Saudi Arabia, to perform the Hajj.
